Buying bagged firewood from the roadside vendor is incredibly convenient, but are you getting what you pay for? Bags of firewood are generally sold for a prescribed price and are said to contain the advertised weight.

A recent experiment to compare random samplings of firewood brought to light that many vendors are under packing their bags of wood. In one instance the vendor claimed to be selling 10kgs of wood in a bag, when this was weighed the weight of the bag came to only 5.69kg. Naturally if the wood was wet when packed it would have lost some weight with drying, but could it be as much as half?
